The photograph above shows pastor Levi longa (left) with three young men that have benefited from the implementation of a carpentry project in Uganda. Our philosophy at SICM, which is a widely accepted and practiced principle by many organisations, is not simply to throw money at a situation but to encourage self-help. If you send money to feed a family for one month, after thirty days you need to send more. But if you give the family a start to enable them to support themselves, not only do you free them from the burden of dependency but you also give them dignity and self-worth. There are times of course, when direct aid is necessary, but outside of that our aim is to bring people to a place of self-sufficiency. By supplying tools and equipment, the men above are now able to support themselves. If you are interested in sponsoring a project in Uganda then contact us for further details.
