A letter from the Malan family

May 24 2008

Dear Friends,

After months of praying and preparing for our future ministry in India we now have a date for departure and some clear strategies in place. It is an exciting though somewhat daunting time.

Our girls have lived in one home since their births and Karen and I have served in one ministry for nearly a quarter of a century. We now leave this comparative security for our new task in India . We have booked our tickets to leave South Africa on August 7th. We are trusting to have Daniel’s adoption complete by then along with his passport.

We have some very encouraging things to report. AFRICA SCHOOL OF MISSIONS gave us a very kind and gracious farewell this weekend. Friends and family from near and far gathered and we felt humbled by their kind words. Then, we have received confirmation that all three of the children have been offered places at Hebron School in Ooty. This has thrilled and amazed us as we have been aware of some of the school’s policies that made their registration as day students difficult.  The processing of visas for India now appears a formality and there are so many warm invitations to partner with Indian leaders that we could be kept fully occupied for decades!

Now the challenging part! We have only a few months to raise and finalise our support, at this stage we have less than 25% of our required monthly support. I have been encouraged by the opportunity to share our vision with you in the past. My main reason for writing is to ask you to prayerfully consider some level of support for us as a family.  I realise that this might take some time to work through your budgeting system but would appreciate you prayerfully considering this. We look forward to keeping you informed of developments and progress in our work. It would be very encouraging to hear from you so that we can make some longer term plans in key areas such as housing, transport etc.

We feel that we have been prepared for this challenge over many years. The commitment to minimise missionary attrition, develop and train the leaders of leaders and support church planting and care projects in India is greater than ever. Thank you for taking the journey with us thus far. Please stand with us as we now see these dreams and visions materialise.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to inform you of our plans and challenges.  I look forward to hearing from you soon.

God richly bless you and thank you!!

Geoff, Karen, Abigail, Bethany and Daniel.
