Brandhall lose for only the second time

In last week's website update we were calling Brandhall & Quinton FC champions-elect. Talk about the kiss of death! What a difference a week can make, as a 6-5 defeat at the hands of title chasers St Matthew's Ravens opens it up again. It's always going to take something special to beat Brandhall, and helped along by four Craig Beresford goals, the Ravens were able to deliver themselves a very welcome early Christmas present.

As did Hilly House, who finally got the better of Tipton Family Church FC. In the last season or so, they have struggled to overcome Tipton and they were coasting this week at 6-0. But even though the green army mobilised late in the game, their very creditable five goals still saw them lose ground in the title race with the final score being 8-5.

The Christmas presents of gifted goals continued in the Midland Elite FC v Stour Valley Rovers match, with the latter suffering a crushing 11-1 defeat. This leaves them firmly rooted at the base of the table, and with some clear water between them and the pack above them, it's a good job we don't have relegation! But back to Midland Elite, a massive well-done to Amo Sandhu who scored eight of their goals. He's now the leading scorer in the league.

The final games were back to earth though as far as goals were concerned, as AFC Fatherless Barn earned an excellent point in a 2-2 draw with a very much in-form Crestwood Church FC team. With Brandhall losing though, Crestwood will see it as two points dropped. And Kingsway Lions got the better of Ebenezer FC 3-2 to join them and the Barn on ten points.

And finally, with Christmas coming up, some of you may be wanting to go to a carol service but don't have a church in mind. As we have a number of teams in the league that are church-based, send me your website address and I'll put it here on the home page.
