It's good to be back! That was the view shared by many of us this week as it was business as usual following the enforced month-long postponement of games courtesy of the worst winter in thirty years. It will of course set us back in terms of completing everything, and as soon as we get past February and (hopefully leave the worst of the weather behind us!) we'll publish a timetable for the rest of the season in terms of presentation evening, final games, next campaign etc. But for now it's all systems go and this week's matches were all in the DBMT. There are several candidates for result of the week, but surely Midland Elite's 7-0 thrashing of St Matthew's Ravens must be up there at the top of the pile. Definitely showing no signs of rustiness after the lay-off, Elite were out of the trap faster than a greyhound at Monmore Green as they sent the Ravens to the doghouse. Jeetinder Bhogal scored four of the goals as well as getting man of the match. And Tipton Family Church FC also put in a solid performance as they stopped in-form Crestwood Church FC in their tracks. A brace from Craig Donaldson gave TFC the edge as they moved to the top of Goup C. It was a bad week for Crestwood all round as the Cobras also lost, and again by the odd goal as they went down to Kingsway Lions 3-2. Brandhall & Quinton FC came from behind to beat Ebenezer FC 4-2 and while AFC Fatherless Barn also scored four goals, they ended up on the losing side as they lost to Hilly House 8-4. Tom Adams was the joint leading scorer of the week as he found the net four times, as well as claiming his sixth man of the match award of the season. But it's early days yet and with teams playing each other twice, not to mention only one being eliminated from each group, everyone will still fancy their chances of reaching the last eight. And finally, there is no transfer window activity to report, no impending administrations and not one approach from a wealthy foreign investor. Boring isn't it!
