Battling mother nature in Uganda September 3 2007 'God is good and blessing the work in Uganda, and we have been very busy in the country for the last four weeks in ministry, as well as monitoring the previous projects and launching the recent ones. There has been torrential rains, punctuated by hail storms, that pounded Soroti and other neighbouring districts in the last two weeks, and the heavy rains broke down some electrical poles and wires and that caused some disconnections. Though they recently worked on it, it is on and off and still stabilising. In some places in the region the rains caused a disaster as floods swept bridges and submerged roads, and caused residents to desert villages. Hundreds of people have been displaced, while some have lost lives, houses, food, crops in the gardens etc. Our recent assessment and fact finding tour of the floods in soroti, Kaberemaidok Kumi, Katakwi, Bukedea and Amuria districts, the situation on the ground indicates that a total of 112 houses and 512 acres of gardens have been destroyed by the floods and the calamity has rendered 613 people homeless; a majority of them have come to Soroti town with children, so please do uphold them in your prayers, that the Lord will come to the rescue of the situation so that people will go back to their own villages. They are in dire need of shelter ,food relief and basic domestic utensils like saucepans, plates etc'. Levi Elonga
