The Book of 1Samuel...
1Samuel 1. Hannah made a vow to God - and kept it. People often make promises in times of trouble. When it comes good don't forget God.
1Samuel 2. Men hiding behind the ministry for their own evil ways. It happened then, it happens now. Every wheat field has a few weeds.
1Samuel 3. God was speaking to Samuel and he didn't even know. God communicates in many ways. Don't miss the moment. Get tuned in.
1Samuel 4. Things don't always go to plan. But it's good to find out why, so we can learn and move on.
1Samuel 5. We need to be careful what we wish for. Because once we get it might not be as good as we thought.
1Samuel 6. The Philistines recognised there was a higher authority at work. Within all of us, even if we try to deny it, is an awareness of God.
1Samuel 7. If we want peace then sometimes we have to go to war. To achieve inner contentment we have to battle that which wages conflict.
1Samuel 8. Be careful what we wish for, because our desires may just come true. And the grass is very rarely greener on the other side.
1Samuel 9. Saul set out looking for lost donkeys, he ended up as top man in Israel. You never know where each day will end. Life is an adventure.
1Samuel 10. Saul anointed King and the people rejoice. But not all of them. He still had his haters. Haters are a sad fact of life.
1Samuel 11. When things are going well, keep humble and don't become arrogant. Don't let victory become triumphalism.
1Samuel 12. There's always a second chance. But we still have to live with the consequences of the first mistake. Try and get it right first time.
1Samuel 13. With privilege comes responsibility. And if we start taking things for granted we are in danger of losing it. Stay sharp and focused.
1Samuel 14. Some people live for conflict. They thrive off arguments. They seek confrontation. As much as possible try and live at peace.
1Samuel 15. When it comes to God we can't just make our own rules up. Well we can, but don't be surprised when everything crashes around us.
1Samuel 16. In a society obsessed with looks, appearance, fashion and the outward, God looks at our heart to see what we really look like.
1Samuel 17. When faced with a giant we can either give in or we can hit the problem head on. Or head off as in the case of Goliath.
1Samuel 18. Saul's jealousy leads to fear. Then hatred. Ultimately it destroys him. Jealousy kills the spirit, the soul and the body.
1Samuel 19. What began as jealousy becomes family split and ends with attempted murder. Don't let jealousy take root, never know where will end.
1Samuel 20. Began as jealousy but Saul is now trying to kill his own son. If we allow jealousy to take root, uncontrollable anger will consume us.
1Samuel 21. Fear causes people to do the most bizarre things. Stay bold, keep away from trouble and keep your dignity.
1Samuel 22. Will always be someone prepared to do the dirty work of another. It's not just bad people we need to watch but their allies as well.
1Samuel 23. Saul so full of hatred for David that he becomes obsessed with trying to kill him. But all he does is destroy himself in the process.
1Samuel 24. Strength of character is when you get an opportunity for revenge over your enemy but don't take it.
1Samuel 25. Abigail averts bloodshed and carnage by her humble intervention. Be a peacemaker not a troublemaker.
1Samuel 26. Saul is obsessed with killing David. It consumes him and he thinks about nothing else. And to think all started with jealousy.
1Samuel 27. David moves to a distant place to escape Saul. It's good, if possible, to get as far away as can from that which seeks to destroy us.
1Samuel 28. Saul is out of control. He's doing desperate things. Make the right decisions and live honourably and we don't need to get desperate.
1samuel 29. Achish was in a difficult situation but he handled it well. Diplomatic and accommodation without negative compromise.
1Samuel 30. If we live by the sword, we die by the sword. Unless we live peaceful lives we'll always be in conflict. Put your sword away.
1Samuel 31. After life of violence Saul himself dies in battle. We reap what we sow. Sow seeds of peace, otherwise trouble follows us everywhere.
