Condensing the Bible into a tweet, chapter by chapter. A condensed commentary for the 21st century! The Book of Numbers...
Numbers 1. Numbers 2. Numbers 3. Numbers 4. Numbers 5. Numbers 6. . Numbers 7. Numbers 8. Numbers 9. . Numbers 10. With organisation the Israelites moved as a unit. Without it they would have been all over the place. Planning is a good thing. Numbers 11. Israelites forgot where they had come from and started whining. It affected even Moses. Be on your guard, moaners are influential. Numbers 12. Because of Miriam's sin the Israelites didn't move for 7 days. One person's wrongdoing can affect so many others. Don't be the one. Numbers 13. Although they were given the land they still had to go and take it. Balance between God's sovereignty and man's responsibility. Numbers 14. It's basically 4 men v the nation. But it's better to be in the minority with God on your side. The majority aren't always right. Numbers 15. Stoned for gathering wood on the sabbath. God is immutable but thankful we live in a day of grace. Numbers 16. Korah and his gang were troublemakers. Ended in disaster. Always does. Don't be a Korah. And if you know one don't join his gang. Numbers 17. Aaron was faithful never grumbled. His staff blossomed and budded. If we want to be fruitful then we need to have the right attitude. Numbers 18. God appointed leaders. They couldn't appoint themselves and they weren't elected by popular opinion. Numbers 19. Touch a corpse and you became unclean. Stay away from that which destroys and seek after He who brings life. Numbers 20. A wrong attitude prevents us from entering fulness. Obedience equals blessing. Numbers 21. Starts with Israel losing. Ends with them taking the land. Life is a battle. Don't give in. Keep on. Perseverance is the key. Numbers 22. Devious people will get others to carry out their schemes. They will even pay them to do their dirty work. Be on your guard. Numbers 23. Balak was desperate to see Israel cursed. Tried everything. But when God's on your side you don't have to worry about man's schemes. Numbers 24. Balak didn't get what he wanted. Instead of repenting and doing what's right he went his own way. Stubborn and arrogant. Numbers 25. The wrong sort of compromise will ultimately lead to disaster. Don't yield to that which needs to be resisted. Numbers 26. A precise census is taken and the land allotted accordingly. God is interested in detail. Not just the big picture. Numbers 27. Joshua takes over from Moses. If we don't pass the baton on to the next generation then the vision dies with us. Numbers 28. The condition for all the animal sacrifices was that they had to be the best. A picture of Calvary and the perfect Lamb of God. Numbers 29. Several references to doing no regular work. We need time to recharge our batteries. But also to focus on higher things. Numbers 30. Don't make promises that we aren't going to keep. Broken pledges and vows have consequences. Think before we commit. Numbers 31. Seems harsh that every enemy had to die. But if we don't put to death all sin in our lives it will eventually overcome us. Numbers 32. Ok for Reuben, Gad to settle where they wanted. But first had to work for the common good with the others. Communal responsibility. Numbers 33. If we are to take full possession of our inheritance then we have to be ruthless and drive out anything in our lives that may hinder. Numbers 34. God gave the command and men were appointed to carry it out. The partnership of the infallible and the fallible. Numbers 35. The guilty had to flee to a city of refuge for safety. A picture of Christ, he is our security. In him alone can we find redemption. Numbers 36. Common sense rules to deal with inheritance issues. Common sense makes life so much easer. |
