OVERSEAS
SHORT TERM MISSIONS.
As an organisation committed to taking the Gospel around the
world, mission trips of this nature feature predominantly in our
ministry.
This year we also have a number of overseas
trips planned. The teams fit in with whatever the need
is in the local Church; a typical overseas mission will combine
seminars Church meetings, seminars and open air gatherings.

HOME
SHORT TERM MISSIONS.
As well as overseas, we also organise short-term missions in the
UK. As with the overseas missions they are all conducted through
and worked
in association with the local Church. We've done missions in places
as geographically diverse as Colwyn Bay, Inverness and Birmingham.
The local Churches we have worked with have reflected our interdenominational
ministry, thus we have done missions with Churches from AOG, Elim,
Independent Evangelical etc.
We do take a holistic approach to our work, and so consequently,
over the years, we have been involved in a number of practical projects.
These have been varied and diverse, and range from major, on-going
projects, such as the construction of an orphanage in Ghana to smaller
one-off involvement, such as the purchase of oxen in Uganda to assist
the rural farmers.
It is impossible to work effectively in the Developing World without
getting involved practically in the lives of the people.

RESOURCE
SENDING MINISTRY.
From sending the tapes to the Ghanaian Evangelist this side of the
ministry has grown considerably. We currently send more than 10,000
items per year out to countries in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe.
Items sent include Bibles, books and commentaries for Pastors. For
most of the Pastors we send resources to, the only input they have
is what we send. We also send things such as basic medical items
etc.
We have a number of people who collect items for us, these are then
packed and posted to their destination. |

EVENTS
AND CONFERENCES.
This is one area that we intend to develop in the future. Currently
we have a Missions Day that is held in September here in the West
Midlands. This began in 1996, this year we intend to change the format
of the event, but it will still be held.
PRACTICAL, PROJECTS.
We do take a holistic approach to our work, and so consequently,
over the years, we have been involved in a number of practical projects.
These have been varied and diverse, and range from major, on-going
projects, such as the construction of an orphanage in Ghana to smaller

TRAINING
The Breakout! Evangelism School offers a course consisting of 10
lectures up to 1 hour long. This is conducted within the West Midlands
over
a period of 10 weeks or elsewhere in the UK over two consecutive
long weekends. Topics covered include - The importance of character
in
evangelism, Building an evangelism team, How to lead a soul to Christ,
Schools work, One-on-one situations etc. Below are some quotes from
people that have been through the School
'Breakout! Evangelism School was friendly, encouraging and had sound
Bible teaching. I also made true new friends. From this my Church
is starting a new team, going out to increase God's Kingdom'
'The past few weeks have been a wonderful time for me, I now understand
how important it is to know the proper meaning of the word evangelism.
I now feel ready to go out and share the Gospel with other people'
'I found this course gives you confidence and is very encouraging.
The ministry is excellent in a friendly atmosphere. I would truly
recommend it.'
We keep the Evangelism Schools to a reasonable number so that
we can have good inter-action and develop relationships much more
easily. If you would like more information on the next Evangelism
School, check out the diary section
LONG-TERM OPPORTUNITIES.
The natural development of the short term teams was to place people on the mission field longer term. We find that although a short term team does a great job, there is often the need for something more substantial. Hence the programme of longer term workers, which we began to implement from October 2000.
Our first missionaries were David and
Elspeth Masson, who spent time in Ghana and Jane
Wilby who worked in Uganda. Although they have now finished
their placements, you can read a selection of their respective
newsletter reports, which are
in archive, by clicking on David
and Elspeth Masson or Jane
Wilby. James
and Anneli Colton have also been
in Africa (Tanzania) as long-term workers, and the development of
their work can be seen by accessing their reports.
If you are interested in a long term placement, we currently have
opportunities in a number of nations, mainly Africa. We have a series
of booklets (1-3) that deal with the various processes to becoming
an SICM missionary. If you're interested, contact
us and we will send you booklet number 1, which covers the
preliminary stages.
VISITING MINISTRY FROM OVERSEAS.
As well as sending teams overseas to work alongside the local Church,
we have found real benefit to overseas Pastors to arrange for them
to visit England. We organise an itinerary for them but also give
them an exposure to what is happening here. There is no doubt that
the ministry of many Pastors has been enriched through these visits.
SUPPORTING OVERSEAS WORKERS
PROGRAMME.
As much of our work is conducted in the Third World, we encounter
extreme poverty. The situation of many Pastors, particularly in rural
areas, is that they really struggle. By raising support, we are able
to help them in a very practical way. This is a ministry that we intend
to develop. We currently support Pastors from Ghana, Kenya and Uganda
etc. |
CRAFTS.
We buy a whole variety of hand made crafts from places like Ghana,
Romania, South Africa Tanzania, Uganda etc. This helps the local people
to make a living. We then sell them here in England. The profits go
the work of SICM, so everyone benefits. |
