James Montgomery Boice - Whatever Happened to the Gospel of Grace (bc1-629) We don't like to admit it, but anyone who honestly evaluates the church's life and outlook will understand that these are not good days for evangelicalism. Why? We have forgotten our theology and, consciously or not, have pursued the wisdom of the world, accepted its 'doctrines', and utilised its methods. The author believes that our ignorance of God and neglect of the gospel of grace is the root of the problem. Here he identifies what's happening within the church and explains how the five doctrinal truths that transformed the world during the reformation not only offer the solution but can shape a renewal today. Good condition. 224 pages. Published by Crossway Books 2002. £3.95.

A Time to Act - Kairos 1992 (bc1-303) Edited by Paul Grant and Raj Patel In 1992 it became ever more fashionable to reflect upon the history of Europe's relationship to the rest of the world: For some it was a time of celelbration, for others a time for mourning. However, for the contributors to this collection it was, above all, a Kairos - 'A Time to Act'. Here, black people from different parts of the world reflect on the meaning of '1992' for their own communities and sketch out what needs to be done, as well as considered by black and Third World people in Europe. Although the writers come from a wide range of backgrounds and cover a host of issues, they are joined by a common thread: that of resistance to all that impoverishes and degrades; and a passion for justice, grounded in the experience of oppression and exploitation. Hopefully, this collection will inform the context in which black Christians, and others, continue to do their Christian living and theologising, rather than simply accepting the ways in which other people define our situation for us. It therefore enables self-theologising through generating questions rather than by providing answers. Good condition. 108 pages, published by Racial Justice, Black and Third World Theological Working Group 1992. £2.20. p&p £1.20. Buy multiple items and get big p&p discounts |
L. B. Brooks - This Thousand Years (bc1-280) On December 31 2000, an event will occur that happens only once every one-thousand years: the simultaneous close to a year, a decade, a century, and a millennium. Replete with photos and illustration, this book is thorough enough for teachers and students, yet simple for the casual history reader. It is traditional at the close of anything to pause for reflection. With the end of the millennium, this book reflects on these last 1,000 years. It shows how we've developed from a feudalistic, ignorant world in 1,001 to a world that is ready to meet the challenges of space and the next millennium - all with the role of the Church of Jesus Christ weaved throughout. Good condition. 392 pages, published by Bridge Publishing 1994. £2.50. p&p £1.80. Buy multiple items and get big p&p discounts |

Eric Middleton - The New Flatlanders (bc1-283) It's easy to laugh at those who believe that the earth is flat! But certain recent scientific theories suggest that the three space dimensions and one of time we observe are not sufficient to express a 'theory of everything'. Miracles, predestination, eternal life and other paradoxes may simply stem from a mismatch: humans using 3-D senses to experience a universe of as many as eleven dimensions. Recalling a 19th Century novel set in an imaginary world of 2-D creatures, the title 'New Flatlanders' is the name of a seekers group. This record of their guided deliberations adds up to a defence of spirituality over materialism and gives Christian apologists greater confidence to debate with scientists. Excellent condition. 175 pages, published by Highland Books 2002. £1.25. p&p £1.20. Buy multiple items and get big p&p discounts |

H. Wheeler Robinson - Religious Ideas of the Old Testament (bc1-219) A famous exposition of a few simple, yet profound ideas which are basic to the religion of Israel. The most characteristic feature of this religion was its moral emphasis, which resulted in its ideas of God and man gaining in meaning and majesty until they demanded a wider arena than the political history of a single nation. These ideas are presented here in their historical setting, with some indication of their importance for Christianity and Christian theology. Hardback. Reasonable condition considering the age of the book. 246 pages, published by Gerald Duckworth, 1959. £1.50. p&p £2.12. Buy multiple items and get big p&p discounts |

J. N. Darby - The Faith Once Delivered to the Saints and Various Papers (bc1-058) The following papers had a distinctive place in connection with the revival, in the last century, of the truth relating to the assembly of God. They bring out clearly from scripture the principles on which Christians can walk together consistently with the truth, in a day when the truth is almost universally departed from. Good condition.
