John Bunyan - The Pilgrim's Progress (bc1-606)

Edited with an introduction and notes by Roger Sharrock.

A book that has crossed most of the barriers of time, race and culture, The Pilgrim's Progress remains the supreme classic of the English Puritan tradition. Bunyan wrote the first part of his allegory while in prison for his faith, and this experience adds extra urgency and depth to his story of Christian pursuing his pilgrimage through Vanity Fair, the Slough of Despond and Delectable Mountains towards the Celestial City.

Warren LeRoi Johns - Ride to Glory. An American Novel (bv1-105)

Ride to Glory exposes some of Charles Darwin's more shaky suppositions in a fictional courtroom battle. Billed as Monkeys II, the mock trial picks up where the 1925 Scopes "trial of the century" left off, debating the millennium's hot-button issue: "Is Evolution a Fact?" Gutsy Ph.D. candidate and independent thinker Joshua Chamberlain Ryan is cast as "star" witness, inadvertently pitting him against major Professor Karl Striker, devout defender of Darwinian doctrine. Josh thumbs his nose at Darwin's speculations and puts his academic credentials on the line, irreverently bashing evolution's Achilles' heels with the courage of the biblical Joshua attacking Jericho. Ride for Glory's storyline boasts an intellectual zest fortified with bibliography and endnotes packed with solid reference data that reinforce the obstreperous on-stage testimony.

Ian Barclay - The Dragons Back (bc1-010)

Just north of Brighton, beyond the downs and nestling in a fold of the hills, lies Kings Nympton. It is one of the oldest villages in Sussex, whose best known building is the Old Nail Shot Restaurant. This is the reason why the tiny village, of no more than handful of houses, is known throughout Sussex and beyond. Upon returning from an exotic Eastern holiday Mike Main, the restaurant owner, becomes involved in a dark and convoluted plot, as he tries to unscramble mysterious activities in his restaurant at night. Crisp and curt Major Bradford; Peter Hoskins, the slightly breathless vicar; Anne Richardson, an attractive local schoolmistress; Mervyn Lyle, a shady antique dealer and a cast of many other characters help unravel this classic murder, mystery suspense.
