Just Music

 

 

Just Music is exactly that - an event that is based around an evening of pure music. No preaching, no testimonies - just music! It is the brainchild of TFC's Paul Westwood and was birthed in 2007, being a collaboration between the worship teams at Tipton Family Chuch and St Matthew's, Tipton. The very first Just Music was held on September 22 at St Matthew's Church, and was attended by 144 people. The feedback was excellent and before the evening was over, plans were already in place to continue with the event.

The vision behind Just Music - as with other Tipton Family Church music initiatives - is two-fold. First of all, there is the desire to minister into the lives of Christians through the medium of music. In some quarters there is almost the thinking that we shouldn't be enjoying musical events, and many Christians feel guilty when they do. But what we say is, come along to Just Music, let your hair down and enjoy the ride! And secondly, for those outside the church, often a very negative view is held of Christian music. And sadly, in many cases, that is a justified position. But the message about Just Music is bring along your friends. Even if they have never been in a church before, they will definitely leave with a totally different mindset than when they came in.

One of the really positive things about Just Music is that it brings together musicians from a number of different churches. Although the vision may have been conceived by Paul at TFC, the outworking is anything but parochial or exclusive, and one of the real strengths of Just Music is its ability to embrace the wider church. All events are free admission, but a free-will collection will be taken to support the ministry of Just Music.
