The Vision of Sedgley International Christian Ministries

HOW THE MINISTRY BEGAN

SICM was started in September 1992 by Stewart Bloor. It all began when a request was made to send out teaching tapes to an Evangelist in Ghana a year or so before.

It soon became clear that God had a purpose and a plan and so SICM was started as a vehicle through which the work could be conducted. Little was it realised at the time just how the Lord would open doors for the ministry.

Since those early beginnings the ministry of SICM has reached more than 30 nations of the world predominantly in Europe, Africa and Asia.

OUR BASE

SICM began on a table in Stewart Bloor's house in Sedgley! As the work grew, this led to the then spare bedroom becoming an office. But even that was too small after a while, and in the December of 1999, the ministry moved into premises in nearby Dudley.

By June 2003, SICM was again on the move, this time to two locations - a small office in Sedgley and a main base at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Coseley. We are very grateful to our friends at the Church for the use of the facility.

The main thing about SICM is that we are a people based organization, as opposed to a building based one. Desks, computers and buildings are very important, but ultimately they are a means to an end, not the end itself.

AREAS OF MINISTRY

The work of SICM can be divided into a number of separate ministry identities. They are as follows:

Overseas Short-Term Missions
Home Short-Term Missions
Resource Sending Ministry
Practical Projects
Long-Term Opportunities
On-lineFC
Supporting Overseas Workers programme (SOW)

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We are evangelical, working right across the denominational boundary and our statement of faith reflects this. We believe:

A) In the verbal inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, as the infallible rule for faith and conduct.
B) In the one true God, who has revealed himself to this world as the Father, as the Son and as the Holy Spirit.

C) In the Saviour of men, the Lord Jesus Christ, conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, very God and very man. In His sinless life, miraculous ministry, substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension and second coming.

D) In the creation, test and fall of man, as recorded in Genesis, his total spiritual depravity and inability to attain to divine righteousness.

E) In the Gospel of the grace of God, how that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day for our justification.

F) In the salvation of sinners by grace, through faith alone in the perfect and sufficient work of Christ on our behalf upon the cross of Calvary excluding all human merit.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our Mission Statement is quite simple, it is 'To reach, teach and equip'.

This sums up what we are about, a) We want to reach people with the life changing message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ b) Once won for Christ, we want to see believers taught and strengthened in their faith c) Once strengthened we want to see believers then serving God themselves, moving out into whatever area of service God has prepared for them.

OUR ON-GOING VISION

As an organisation we recognise very much the importance of vision in the work that we do. It's not enough to say that we want to get from A to B, we have to also stipulate how we intend to do it.

Therefore, SICM has a Strategy that we work through. This contains short, mid and long term objectives. Having a written vision enables all those associated with the ministry to pull together and to keep focused on the targets that we have before us.
